LAN Infrastructure Cabling Cat 5e
Enhanced Category 5 is a Specification designed to allow networks
to support very high-speed data transmission, like
Gigabit Ethernet, at a bandwidth of 100 MHz.
Category 5/Class D Specifications guarantee data networks to perform
at 100 MHz and is suitable for 10Mbps and 100Mbps data transmissions.
The demand however to increase the amount of data transferred has
become significant. Enhanced Category 5 provides Power Sum Characteristics
that enable these increased data rates.
Traditionally Crosstalk has only been measured between any combination
of two pairs within the cabling. Power Sum is a way of calculating
the Crosstalk on an individual pair caused by the three other pairs
in the cabling. This is of crucial importance for Gigabit Ethernet,
where all four pairs are used simultaneously.
